Lyman Farmers Market

I’m going to go ahead and give you the most important piece of advice for visiting the Lyman Farmers Market this Saturday:

Do not eat breakfast first.

Seriously.

We’ve got churro coffee, fresh English muffins, cinnamon rolls, Hawaiian food, fried rice, banana bread, roasted nuts, local honey, lemonade — AND we’re handing market produce over to a local chef and letting him turn it into something delicious right in front of us.

This Saturday, August 22, is our Farm to Table Market, and Chef Andrew Hecht from The Liminal Bistro will be joining us for a live cooking demonstration using produce straight from the Lyman Farmers Market.

The market runs from 9:00 AM–12:00 PM at 80 Groce Road in Lyman, with Chef Andrew’s cooking demonstration beginning at 10:00 AM.

Samples are free.

Come hungry.

Here are 10 things to eat, drink and find at the Lyman Farmers Market this Saturday.

1. See What Chef Andrew Can Do With Market Produce

This is the big one!

At 10:00 AM, Chef Andrew Hecht of The Liminal Bistro will take produce from our market and turn it into something spectacular.

You’ll be able to watch the cooking demonstration, meet the chef behind one of Lyman’s newest restaurants and, most importantly, try a free sample.

This is exactly the kind of thing we love about a farmers market. Food doesn’t have to travel across the country to be exciting. Sometimes it comes from a farm down the road, gets picked up at the market and ends up in the hands of a talented local chef.

That’s farm to table.

2. Start With a Churro Coffee

My personal game plan begins at Whisk & Wander Bakeshop with a Churro Coffee.

Coffee first. Shopping second.

She is also bringing bread, so this is a very dangerous place to begin if you’re attempting to stick to any sort of market budget.

You’ve been warned.

3. Restock the English Muffins

While you’re at Whisk & Wander, grab the English muffins.

I’m restocking mine this weekend, and if you’ve never tried a locally made English muffin instead of the little plastic-wrapped grocery store version, this is your sign. Rumor has it she is brining Jalapeno with Cheddar or Maple with brown sugar. Come ON!

Sunday morning breakfast is already handled.

4. Get Lunch From The Musubi Ladies

At some point, breakfast turns into lunch.

Thankfully, The Musubi Ladies will be there with Hawaiian food and desserts.

I’m personally making a beeline for the fried rice and musubi. If you’ve never had musubi before, Saturday is an excellent opportunity to expand your culinary horizons without leaving Lyman. I think I saw that she is brining Portuguese sausage and egg sliders which is HIGHLY addictive.

5. Buy the Honey Bear

This isn’t a suggestion.

The Backyard Chicken Farm and Apiary will have eggs, meat, produce, baked goods and honey.

I’m getting a honey bear.

You should probably get a honey bear.

We’re all getting honey bears.

6. Cool Down With a Watermelon Lemonade

Eventually August in South Carolina is going to remind us that it is, in fact, August in South Carolina.

That’s when I’m shuffling over to Dragon’s Hoard Coffee for a Watermelon Lemonade.

They’ll also have coffee, for those of you who believe there is no such thing as too much caffeine on a Saturday morning.

I respect that. You are my people.

7. Bring Home Some Banana Bread

The Liminal Bistro isn’t just bringing Chef Andrew this weekend — they’re also bringing the banana bread they feature on their regular menu.

I’m bringing some home for my mom.

At this point I’ve had coffee, English muffins, fried rice, musubi, honey, something sweet and watermelon lemonade and purchased banana bread for later.

“Profit” is just a six-letter word.

8. Fill Your Produce Bag

We are still a farmers market, after all.

Lyman Market Produce will be stocked with fresh produce for your kitchen this week.

Grab the things you know you’ll use, but maybe pick up something you haven’t cooked with before, too. You can even stick around for Chef Andrew’s demonstration and get a little inspiration for what to do with it.

That’s one of my favorite parts of shopping at a farmers market — dinner starts looking a little different depending on what’s actually growing right now.

9. Find Something You Didn’t Know You Needed

Food may be getting most of my attention this week, but there’s plenty more to wander through.

Ebony’s Invites and Designs will have personalized gifts, Thornal Custom Creations is bringing 3D art and engraved gifts, Squiggles Toys and More will have kids’ gifts and toys, and You Otter Create will have custom gifts and planners.

And don’t forget the dogs!

Judy’s Tail Waggin’ Treats will have healthy homemade dog treats, so apparently even the dog gets to eat well this weekend. Ask her about her treats that have MUSHROOMS in them!

10. Find The Culinary Encourager

There’s going to be a local food blogger roaming around our market eating his way through Saturday morning.

Frankly, we support this behavior.

The Culinary Encourager will be eating his way through the market this weekend, checking out what our vendors have to offer, meeting some of the people behind the food, and experiencing a Saturday morning at the Lyman Farmers Market.

If you spot him, say hello!

And if he’s holding something delicious, you should probably ask him where he got it.
