On Saturday, October 3, downtown Lyman is getting up a little earlier than usual.
Runners will be lining up. Walkers will be stretching. Kids will be getting ready for their own race. Vendors will be setting up. Coffee will undoubtedly be necessary.
It’s time for the Grow Lyman 5K & Wellness Market! Here’s everything you need to know before October 3.
First Things First: You Do NOT Have to Be a Runner
We really mean this.
The Grow Lyman 5K was created to encourage our community to move, get outside and take a step toward better health—and that looks different for everyone.
Run it. Jog it. Walk it. Push a stroller. Bring your dog. Convince two friends to come with you.
You don’t have to be fast, and you certainly don’t have to look like a runner. I’ll be huffin’ and puffin’ along with you, but it’s worth it to make a big change in my health for the coming year.
You just have to show up. We are cheering you on!
Race Day Schedule
Mark your calendar for Saturday, October 3, 2026 in downtown Lyman.
The 5K Run begins at 7:30 AM, with walkers heading out shortly afterward at 7:45 AM.
Then it’s time for our smallest runners!
The Kids ¼-Mile Run begins at 9:00 AM and gives our younger participants a chance to experience the excitement of race day with a finish line of their own.
The Wellness Market opens at 8:00 AM, so there will already be plenty happening as runners begin crossing the finish line. If you are attending to cheer someone else on, grab a coffee and a snack from some of our amazing market vendors while you wait.
Where Is Everything Happening?
The Grow Lyman 5K starts and finishes in downtown Lyman near:
80 Groce Road
Lyman, SC 29365
The 5K course will take participants through Lyman before bringing them back to the start/finish area for the post-race celebration.
Free parking will be available near the race area, in the old mill parking lot. Volunteers will help direct traffic into designated parking areas.
Give yourself plenty of time that morning. We recommend arriving 60–90 minutes before your start time so you aren’t trying to park, grab your bib and sprint to the starting line before you’ve even started the actual race.
What Does Registration Include?
5K registration is currently $35, and every registered participant receives an official Grow Lyman 5K race T-shirt.
The Kids ¼-Mile Run is $15.
But here’s where you can save some money:
Grab Two Friends!
Groups of three or more can register for just $20 per person.
Grab your spouse and a friend. Bring your coworkers. Get your church small group together. Recruit your neighbors. Challenge another local business. Bring your walking buddies.
You don’t have to actually race each other.
Although we’re certainly not going to stop you.
Yes, There Are Awards!
For those who ARE coming to race, we’ve got some hardware waiting at the finish line.
Awards will be presented to the top overall male and female finishers, plus the top three finishers in the following age divisions:
- 10 & Under
- 11–14
- 15–19
- 20–29
- 30–39
- 40–49
- 50–59
- 60–69
- 70+
And because this is Lyman and we know some of your favorite running partners have four legs…
There will also be a Top Dog/Human Team award!
Packet Pickup
Want an easier race morning? Pick up your packet the night before.
Friday, October 2
4:00–7:00 PM
Lyman Event Center

Lyman, SC
Race-day packet pickup will also be available beginning at 6:15 AM Saturday morning.
Packet pickup closes 30 minutes before each race begins, so don’t cut it too close.
Your packet will include the things you’ll need for race day, including your race bib and shirt.
What Happens After the 5K?
Don’t cross the finish line and head straight for the car!
That’s when the second half of the event really gets going.
Beginning at 8:00 AM, the Grow Lyman Wellness Market will be open with local vendors, wellness-focused businesses, community organizations, food, fresh produce, demonstrations and activities for the family.
We want to create a morning that celebrates what it looks like for an entire community to Grow Lyman—healthier people, stronger local businesses and more opportunities to get together with our neighbors.
So even if running 3.1 miles sounds like your personal nightmare, come to the Wellness Market!
You don’t have to participate in the 5K to enjoy the rest of the morning.
Can I Bring My Kids?
Absolutely.
This was designed to be a family event.
Kids can cheer you on, enjoy the Wellness Market and activities, or register for the Kids ¼-Mile Run.
Strollers are welcome on the 5K course, too.
If you’ve been wanting to become more active as a family, this is a pretty great excuse to start.
Can I Bring My Dog?
Yes!
Dogs are welcome to participate with their humans, and we even have that special Top Dog/Human Team award up for grabs.
Just make sure your four-legged running buddy is comfortable around crowds, other dogs and all the excitement of race morning.
What If This Is My First 5K?
Then we REALLY want you there.
A 5K is 3.1 miles, and you don’t have to run the entire thing—or any of it.
Walk. Run for a minute and walk for five. Find a friend and talk the entire way. Set a goal just to finish.
There will be people trying to win their age group and people simply trying to make it to the finish line.
Both belong at the Grow Lyman 5K.
If you’ve been waiting for a reason to say, “I’m going to do my first 5K,” this is it.
What Should I Bring on Race Morning?
Keep it simple.
Wear comfortable shoes and clothes you have already exercised in. Bring some water, especially if the weather is warm. Don’t experiment with brand-new running shoes on race morning.
Most importantly, bring a little patience and a good attitude.
This is a community event filled with runners, walkers, children, dogs, vendors, volunteers and spectators. Come ready to enjoy the morning.
